It’s impossible to escape Christmas in Sharil Prall’s house.

Every room of her four-level house on Ninth and Jefferson Streets is decorated with snowmen, angels, Santa Claus and every other Christmas symbol imaginable.

Prall’s Christmas collection is hard to rival. It includes about 24 decorated Christmas trees and 15 Nativity scenes, her most precious being a hand-carved scene.

An entire room is decorated with snowmen and another with Santas.

On every wall, in every corner and on every piece of furniture rests something that has to do with the Christmas season. Most of it is store bought, some is handmade. Her favorite is a carved wooden Santa Claus that stands about 3-feet tall at the bottom of the stairs.

There’s even collections of stuff that’s not usually associated with Christmas, like clowns, carousels and cats.

Prall says the thought of counting how many Christmas decorations she has is overwhelming.

Prall’s collection started to take shape when she worked for a gift store in town. She also worked as an antique dealer for a while.

“I have collected over the years,” Prall said. “I’ve always decorated over the years and Christmas was always the biggest business season. The more you have, the more you get.”

Four generations of Prall’s family lives in the house that was built in 1909. Prall’s daughter, Dawn Crosier and her husband Kenneth, live there with their two kids. And Prall’s mother, Hazel Nickels, also lives in the home.

“Never a dull moment in this house,” Nickels said of the full house as she sat at the kitchen table making snickerdoodle cookies.

Prall’s husband died six years ago and she hadn’t decorated her house for Christmas since then, until this year when a friend suggested she do it again.

“I wanted to go through all my Christmas stuff anyway,” Prall said. “I tried to get it all out, but I didn’t. What you see is about 90 percent of it.”

Prall has even opened her house to the public. She hosted a holiday tour in which all proceeds went to Soroptomist, which is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities throughout the world.

She said only about 50 people showed up at this year’s because it fell on the day of the snow storm.

Prall said it took about six weeks for her to get all of her decorations put up, even with help from the rest of her family.

“We started before Halloween,” said Prall’s daughter Dawn.

Dawn said her favorite room is the snowman room because those decorations can be left up all winter long. She also enjoys the basement because it has a tree decorated with Harley Davidson ornaments.

Prall is proud of all the rooms in the house and is unable to choose her favorite.

“Whatever room I’m in,” she said.
