OMAHA -- A hearing is scheduled that could help determine whether Nebraska loses millions of dollars in federal funding for the troubled Beatrice State Developmental Center.
The hearing is scheduled for today (Wednesday) in Omaha before the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Departmental Appeals Board.
The purpose is to determine whether the state Department of Health and Human Services eligibility for federal Medicaid reimbursement for services provided at the hospital should be terminated. The amount is about $29 million annually.
The hospital for developmentally disabled patients has repeatedly run afoul of federal standards. Investigations uncovered about 200 cases of alleged neglect and abuse from late 2006 to late 2007.
