Providing quality education to all students is the focus of American Education Week this week.
Beatrice Education Association Co-President Doris Martin said this year's theme is, “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility,” during a presentation to the Beatrice Public Schools Board of Education during the board's regular meeting Monday evening.
“The teachers in this district work very hard every day to make that a reality,” she said.
Martin said BPS teachers bring more than 2,300 years of combined experience to the district.
She said the BEA is excited to work together with the board on several projects and the district is fortunate to have outstanding support from its patrons.
In other business:
High school drainage: Learned that changes are being implemented to address drainage issues for the new soccer fields. Additional piping and an electric sump pump will assist in moving the excess water from this area.
Carpet: Informed the district is looking at replacing the worn carpet in the academic areas of the high school with rubber flooring like that used by Lincoln Public Schools, which is easier to maintain and helps with acoustics.
