GENEVA - DeWitt Tri County’s Lady Trojans downed the Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines in their final match to finish third in the Geneva-Fillmore Central Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday.
Tri County opened tournament play by splitting a pair of games in the Black Pool.
The Lady Trojans downed Milford, 25-19, 25-18, but fell to host Fillmore Central, 25-22, 22-25, 15-9.
Tri County coach Brett Scheiding said he was disappointed with the lack of “intensity” exhibited by the Lady Trojans to open the tournament.
Against Milford, Scheiding said the Lady Trojans played “fairly decent” at the net.
“It seemed we were awfully gracious and donated a bunch of points right back at Milford,” Scheiding said.
Lauren Cammack led the Lady Trojans’ attack against Milford with seven kills, while Jamie Erskine had 15 set assists.
Shelby Zimmerman had three ace blocks and a team-high three ace serves.
In the Fillmore Central match, Scheiding said the Lady Trojans were “flat.”
“Our passing was inconsistent, our setting was inconsistent and, in turn, our hitting was softer than normal and much less aggressive,” Scheiding said.
Zimmerman led the Lady Trojans in kills with 10 against Fillmore Central, while Erskine had 14 set assists.
Sarah Genrich had a team-high eight digs and Zimmerman had three ace blocks.
In the third-place match, Tri County defeated Wilber-Clatonia, 23-25, 25-16, 26-17.
Scheiding said the Lady Trojans gave up a late five-point lead to the Lady Wolverines in the first set, but came back to win the next two.
“Play at the net was incredible for both teams,” Scheiding said. “I can’t say that I have seen a better blocking battle.”
Cammack had a team-high 12 kills for Tri County in the Wilber-Clatonia match, while Erskine had 21 set assists.
Genrich led in digs with 13, Zimmerman have six ace blocks and Erskine had four ace serves.
Wilber-Clatonia fell to eventual champion Hastings St. Cecilia, 25-18, 25-23, in their first game in the Purple Pool, then defeated Lincoln Christian, 25-21, 27-29, 25-16.
Next action for the Lady Trojans will be Tuesday as they host Sutton.
Wilber-Clatonia returns to action Tuesday at Utica-Centennial.

FAIRBURY — Fairbury’s Lady Jeff volleyball team finished fourth at its own invitational Saturday.
The Lady Jeffs won their first game over Falls City, 25-9, 25-15, before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Syracuse, 25-15, 25-16.
In the third-place match, the Lady Jeffs dropped a two-set decision to David City, 25-18, 25-16.
Syracuse won the tournament, downing Seward, 25-16, 26-17, in the championship final.
David City finished third with Fairbury fourth, York fifth, Fairfield-Sandy Creek sixth, Auburn seventh and Falls City eighth.
Fairbury coach Kristi Peterson said the Lady Jeffs played well in their opening match against Falls City.
“The girls were clicking and moving well,” Peterson said.
Amy Simpson led the Fairbury attack against Falls City with 12 kills, while Whitney Ebke had 22 set assists.
KaLee Cromer had three ace serves in the match, Mandy Osborne had two ace blocks and Miranda Barber and Ebke had seven digs each.
In the semifinals, Peterson said the Lady Jeffs were defeated by a “very athletic” Syracuse squad.
“They (Syracuse) blocked us very well, which affected our attackers negatively,” Peterson said.
Cromer had a team-high four kills in the Syracuse match, while Ebke had 12 set assists.
Ebke led the Lady Jeffs in digs with 10.
Peterson said unforced errors led to the Lady Jeffs’ loss to David City in the third-place match.
“We missed too many serves and serve receives to expect to win,” Peterson said.
The Lady Jeffs also made some “mental mistakes” which were costly, Peterson said.
“We must play hard and smart at all times,” Peterson said, “not just when things seem to be going our way.”
Against David City, Simpson had a team-high seven kills, while Ebke had 13 set assists.
Cromer had two ace blocks and Paige Pfingsten had eight digs.
