Reka Wallman, 88, of Beatrice, died at Parkview Center in Beatrice on Friday morning, Sept. 5, 2008. She was born on May 18, 1920, at Pickrell and attended country school at rural Pickrell. She was married to John G. Wallman on Sept. 23, 1937, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pickrell. They lived and farmed near Pickrell before moving to Beatrice in 1958. She worked at various places, including Croy’s Drive Inn, Beatrice State Developmental Center and Beatrice Inn. She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and a current member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice, where she did volunteer work. She enjoyed family reunions, 4th of July and music.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilda Kisling of Beatrice, Ethel Gurke of Kansas City, Mo., Judy Gruell and husband, Jim, of Kearney, Mo.; one son, Gilbert Wallman of Beatrice; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emmalean Parde and husband, Marvin, of Beatrice and Ethel Wallman of Filley; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willy and Janna Zimmerman Remmers; her husband, John; her daughter, Idonna; her son, Harlan; two sons-in-law, Alvin Kisling and Joe Gurke; two great-grandchildren; two brothers Jurgen and Thomas Remmers; one sister Sophia Hofeling.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor David Kramer and Pastor Joann Kramer officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be at 1:45 P.M. Monday in the chapel of the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice, with Ike and Jan Stern in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice until 9 p.m. Sunday and then at the church on Monday one hour preceding the services.
