Summerfield, Kan., is having a “120-year-old city” celebration on Saturday, June 21, which coincides with the Summerfield High School Alumnus potluck dinner and get together for friends and classmates on Sunday, June 22.
On Saturday, activities for adults include a co-ed softball tournament Friday and Saturday. Saturday only events include a trap shoot, mud volleyball, water fights, man-powered tractor pull, horseshoes, bingo, quilt display, a car/truck/tractor show and more.
For kids, a greased pig contest, bicycle and tricycle races, pedal tractor pull, water balloon toss and more are planned. Students from Summerfield/Axtell high school will have snow cones, popcorn, funnel cakes and a dunk tank. Barbecue competition chef Blake Frazee will have his cooker fired up for a picnic style noon meal, brats, hamburgers, hot wings, pulled pork sandwiches, etc. The Classic Café will also be open to serve food. The evening meal will be a barbecue chicken meal prepared by Van Laninghams of Beatrice, and ending the festivities of the day with a street dance.
All proceeds go towards community improvements and different activity funds for the Summerfield/Axtell High School.
