Congrats Matt Bauman - you are just what we need on the county board! Some new energy and fresh ideas to move us forward.

It is unfortunate more voters do not take their civic duty seriously. Due to lack of voter turn out an unexperienced District 2 supervisor is in position. What is this district in for?

thanks to no voters, we have to pay higher property taxes to pay for something Beatrice WANTS and DOESN'T need. Thanx, now we have a trifecta, high gas, high food prices, now higher property taxes.

I think district 2 is "in for" some great things ... inexpeienced politicians are often the best kind!

Perhaps this is how the voters 'thanked' the two incumbent supervisors for the 14% increase in the county tax levy. Too bad we couldn't have 'thanked' them all
Not Worried

Well just how does one gain experience to be a supervisor CONCERNED? Why didn't you run?

BTW, I would be more worried if he was INEXPERIENCED as opposed to unexperienced which is not even a word.

Last time I checked you needed to begin as a rookie, and gain experience from there.

Good Luck Matt-prove the doubters wrong.

anybody who cared about campaigning as much as matt baumann did i'm sure will do a fine job. plenty of career politicians with experience don't care enough to do a good job. i'm sure he won't make everybody happy and they'll be the ones to make the most noise. congrats and do your best

I am curious why people always feel we need "new energy and fresh ideas" as stated by "daily reader". I believe a thank you is appropriate to the incumbents who have given their time and done a fine job. It is too bad that longevity and experience are not valued as they should be. Apparently you are a fan of Matt, I hope he lives up to your expectations.

If the other two individuals were so concerned about winning and wanted to tell me what they were going to do for me, then why did they only send me junk mail? I don't recall one of them knocking on my door, telling me how experienced they were and what they were going to do for my district or the county as a whole. And yes, I voted for Matt.
LAZY non-voters
May 14, 2008 4:54 PM
I am sick of this county! You lazy non voters make it soooo easy for our city council etc. to pass anything they feel like including a 2.8 mill. bond issue in the middle of a recession!! When your property taxes keep sky rocketing you only have your lazy, unpatriotic, un-american, selves to thank!!Voting is a right!! USE it! or let the haves keep having everything in this town!! They'll tax us until nothing is left but a ghost town and a walmart and a sparkly new courthouse!!!!

Matt Bauman has more elected experience than Lawrence Penner, so I guess I'm wondering why anyone is talking about inexperience. He will do a great job. Glad Byars will be there to give his considerable experience and knowledge to the citizens of Gage County. Two new perspectives to give needed dimension to the Board

To bad that some people can't accept change as in "Concernede". If you think that you can do a better job then why didn't you run??? People like you are the first to complain. Congatulations Matt, show them what you got.
Why I voted
May 15, 2008 10:59 AM
I voted for Matt in District 2 because he promised to listen to my concerns and made the effort to show up and talk with us, isn't that the underlying foundation of a representative? The majority of republicans in our district (plus many more from the independant and democratic party) expressed this same praise for him throughout the campaigning process. Poor voter turnout has nothing to do with his win - the people who are concerned for the community are the people who vote.

I don't understand why people are so swayed just because someone knocks on your door and says what you want to hear. Bauman knows nothing about rural living or townships. Up until a year ago he lived in town...he grew up in another state with his mom. I don't think being on school board means you will be a good supervisor. I hear Bauman wants to change the meeting times...if the office doesn't fit your schedule...DON'T RUN!

Chill out, you're the one who griped to JD about the courthouse.
sorry

sorry people, but.....lazy is right. 25 percent turn out. Why even have a town. At least Jefferson county has some sense.

Changing the meeting times is a good idea. Since they are currently held during the day, it limits the number of people who can participate and attend. It also limits the number of people who can run for that office. Also, the school board and city council meetings are televised so the public can watch them in the evenings. It would be nice if the county board extended the same courtesy to the citizens of Gage County.

I don't understand why I owe my vote to someone who has lived in the same place for years and years. Does that make them a better supervisor?
