Maxine Ellen (Hawkins) Hackbarth, 90, Beatrice, Neb., died on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Beatrice Manor Care Center, Beatrice. She was born on May 3, 1918, in Beatrice, and graduated from Union Center Public School. She lived on a farm by Blue Springs. She worked at several cafes and then worked at the Beatrice Bakery for many years. She loved playing Bingo and pickle cards.
She is survived by sons, Alan R. Hackbarth and wife, Ardith, of Jansen, Walter L. “Butch” Hackbarth and wife, Denita, of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Jean Guenther of Beatrice; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Whitehead of Beatrice; brother-in-law, William Kirk of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, Uriah and Dollie (Tays) Hawkins; husband, Bode A. Hackbarth; son, Ronald W. Hackbarth; sister, Marjorie Kirk.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, at Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, Neb. Officiating: Pastor Jack Magness. The body has been cremated so there will be no visitation. A register book will be available for signatures on Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Memorial has been established to family’s choice with the mortuary in charge. Reception will be held at Christ Community Church, Beatrice, Neb., following the service.
