A Reynolds man sustained injuries to his head and torso after he was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Nebraska Highway 8 near the north edge of Thompson Sunday morning.
Paul Kuhlmann, 68, was taken to Jefferson Community Health Center after he was involved in a single-vehicle accident when he fell asleep at the wheel Sunday morning, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
At 8:15 a.m., Kuhlmann as driving a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck south on Nebraska Highway 8 when he dozed off, deputies reported. When he awoke he was going off the left side of the road. The vehicle went down the road embankment, through a ditch, then airborne for a short time and came to a rest after colliding with a tree.
Kuhlmann was not wearing a seatbelt and the truck did not have airbags, according to a report.
Kuhlmann was taken to Jefferson Community Health Center by Jefferson County Ambulance District No. 33.
The vehicle was a total loss. Emergency agencies assisting at the scene was Jefferson County Rescue, Fairbury City and Rural Fire and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
