The Homestead Days Parade Committee announces a food drive to be held in conjunction with the 2008 Homestead Days event.

The food drive will benefit Blue Valley Community Action, Community Food Pantry and Salvation Army.

The drive will take place in three stages. The first stage is being offered as a business-to-business challenge. Area businesses are encouraged to ask their employees to donate food items. Among possible ideas are challenge other departments or competing corporations or add fun categories such as the most enthusiastic collectors, the most beans or rice, special prizes or offers, etc.

Winners will be determined by amount of pounds per employee that are donated with the winner receiving a plaque, announcement at the Homestead Days Parade and through local media.

Each business will be responsible for weighing and recording the total weight collected using the honor system. Businesses are asked to register by calling the chamber office at 223-2338 and include the number of employees. Food collection may begin May 14 and end June 11.

The second stage of the food drive will involve several locations designated as drop points. Food items will be collected from Wednesday, May 28, through June 11. Anyone wishing to have a drop point can call the chamber office.

For the third stage, parade attendees will be encouraged to bring a food item to the Homestead Days Parade on June 14. The items will be collected along the parade route and added to the float from the food collected by businesses and at drop points.
