The Beatrice Police Department was awarded a $600 traffic safety grant to purchase a mobile radar unit.

The Beatrice Police Department received a $600 traffic safety grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to assist in the purchase of a mobile radar unit, Fred Zwonechek, HSA administrator, said.

“The Beatrice Police Department is receiving the funding assistance because they have identified a need and desire in reducing traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities at hazardous locations within the community.”

The mobile radar speed detection equipment provides the agency with a state-of-the-art system that will enhance speed control efforts in identified hazardous locations.

“They should e commended for taking advantage of this funding assistance to equip their patrol units with the tools necessary to assure safer streets for the residents and visitors to Beatrice,” Zwonechek said. “Similar efforts by other communities have demonstrated proven success at reducing traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities with the communities.”
