'Turn on the Lights' Town Hall Meeting set for Friday, March 28 in Fairbury

FAIRBURY - A “Turn On The Lights” Town Hall Meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday, March 28, at the Fairbury Elks Lodge at 525 G St.

Alcohol is the most widely used substance of abuse among America’s youth. Underage drinking is a complex persistent social problem that has resisted an easy solution. The Jefferson County Town Hall Meeting is designed to alert and empower parents and youth to find solutions.

There will be a simulated car/bus accident with response by the local ambulance, fire, police department and the county coroner.

A silent auction and “bash the car for $1” will help to support after-school programming at the FYI Center.

A free spaghetti supper is planned following the accident simulation. Free-will donations will be accepted.

The event is sponsored and supported by the Jefferson Community Coalition, Blue Valley Community Action Partnership, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA, the FYI Center Youth Leadership Council, Fairbury Elks, Fairbury Optimists, Fairbury Public Schools and area businesses.
