Lucille Verna Mohling, 88, Beatrice, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. She was born to Frank and Rose (Heidemann) Burkhart on June 23, 1919, at rural Daykin, Nebraska.
She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Daykin, Nebraska, and attended country school near Daykin. In 1937, she graduated as Valedictorian of her class from the Daykin High School. On September 15, 1940, she was married to Raymond Mohling at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Daykin. To this union, four children were born: Ron, Lois, Wes, and Kathy. They raised their family on a farm north of Fairbury. She was a member of the “Never Idle Club” in the Bower Community. In 1960, they moved to Beatrice, where she was a receptionist and waitress at the Paddock Hotel, and after that, worked at the Beatrice State Home. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Beatrice, and St. Paul Ladies Aid and Naomi Circle. Lucille enjoyed quilting, playing cards, visiting with her friends, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, Wes Mohling and wife Jody of Roca, Nebraska, Ron Mohling and wife, Luanne of Duluth, Georgia; daughters, Lois Rohla, Lincoln, Nebraska, Kathy Koenig and husband Robert D. of Beatrice, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Burkhart and wife, Freda of Daykin, Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Lena Burkhart of Crete, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Robert Rohla; brothers, Virgil Burkhart and Eldo Burkhart.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 10th and High streets, Beatrice, with Pastor Douglas D. Irmer and Pastor Timothy W. Wagner officiating. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Burial will be at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Visitation will be held at Harman-Wright Mortuary of Beatrice on Monday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family greeting family and friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial has been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the family’s choice with Harman-Wright Mortuary in charge.
