Beatrice could be without natural gas for two to three days

Aquila employees will be going door-to-door in Beatrice to turn off gas meters so they can fix a problem with the city’s natural gas line.

Utility spokesman Bob McKeon says an outage in the south section of the city began Thursday morning and that all Beatrice customers will likely be without service for two or three days.

McKeon says the problem started when employees performing routine maintenance failed to turn an underground valve back on. That caused low pressure in south Beatrice.

McKeon says that to correct the problem, all the city’s gas meters will have to be shut off and the system repressurized. About 50 additional employees are being brought in to help with the repairs.

Sorry to hear that your Easter weekend will be ruined thanks to Aquila. My family, we can move Easter to Lincoln and use my place if you want.

Oh great, looks like hamburger helper is out for dinner tonight! Does Burger King have gas for those flame broiled burgers? Who's going to light my furnace and hot water heater when they turn the gas back on? If the house blows up, I'll blame Aquila.

There are children in South Beatrice living in the low-income housing with their mother who could be brought home to be with their father (who has heat and hot water) but the Sheriff's office and CPS won't even do a welfare check. I hope that an Aquila employee calls when they visit. Maybe that will help.

We have to understand this was a mistake done by a human being who was doing his job performing a routine check... This is not something that happens normally for Aquila.. God bless workers and families, stay strong and SAFE!

Aquila has done a great job getting everything back on track! Thank you so much to the Aquila employees who are working extra hours to restore the gas service to Beatrice. The extra effort is much appreciated by this Beatrice resident.

for pities sake,it was a accident.Thank God it wasn't in the middle of January!
If people can't handle it now as a short term problem, how would it be if it was a natural disaster, along with no electricity.Yes,this was human error, but it opens up eyes to how we have become dependant on techonology.
You flip a switch,a light comes on,pick up the phone,a pizza is delivered. It was a temporary set back, nothing blew up,toxic fumes were not put into the atmosphere, you were not vacated from your homes due to danger. It was a error, that's all, take a step back and remember,we ALL make mistakes.
