Aquila employees will be going door-to-door in Beatrice to turn off gas meters so they can fix a problem with the city’s natural gas line.
Utility spokesman Bob McKeon says an outage in the south section of the city began Thursday morning and that all Beatrice customers will likely be without service for two or three days.
McKeon says the problem started when employees performing routine maintenance failed to turn an underground valve back on. That caused low pressure in south Beatrice.
McKeon says that to correct the problem, all the city’s gas meters will have to be shut off and the system repressurized. About 50 additional employees are being brought in to help with the repairs.
