The number of Gage County polling sites has been decreased from 26 to 17 for this year’s elections, but the Gage County Clerk’s Office hopes the changes will make voting more convenient and safer for residents.

“I know change can sometimes be difficult,” Gage County Clerk Dawn Hill said.

“But I feel these are some important and positive changes. Our schoolchildren will be safer because of this and some of our elderly may find it much easier for them to get to their polling site to vote.”

Hill said the changes were made to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, for the safety and security of schoolchildren, as a cost-saving measure for taxpayers and for convenience and accessibility for all voters.

She also said the county will not incur any charges to use the new sites and all of the locations have large parking areas. In addition, due to increased security concerns, no schools will be used as polling sites and the courthouse will also no longer be used as a poling site due to recently implemented security measures.

Despite the decrease in the number of polling places, Hill said she believes that the changes will make voting more convenient for people.

“By making some changes, I am in hopes it will increase voter participation by making it more convenient for voters to access their polling site,” she said.

is there someplace on the internet we can look at to see what ward we're in? I'm new to town and registered to vote but not sure where to go?

No offense, but why pick the Catholic Church where no one can figure out where to park?
