HANOVER, Kan. - A 13-year-old Hanover girl was killed in a one-vehicle accident Friday morning near Hanover, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Kaleigha Tegtmeier was killed shortly after 8 a.m. Friday when the 1995 Chevy pickup truck she was riding in was involved in an accident on Kansas Highway 148 about three miles north of Hanover.
According to the KHP's accident report, the truck, driven by Kellan Tegtmeier, 17, of Hanover, was southbound on K-148 when it entered the west ditch, struck a Kansas Department of Transportation sign, crossed a bridge, struck another sign, overcorrected, crossed both lanes of traffic, entered the east ditch, struck an embankment, went through a barbed wire fence, overturned and came to rest on the driver's side.
Kellan Tegtmeier was reported possibly injured but there was nothing on the report saying he had been taken to a hospital. The report also said that Kellan was wearing a seat belt while Kaleigha was not.
According to the Barnes-Hanover-Linn USD 223 Web site, the Hanover High School home football game against Marais des Cygnes Valley scheduled for Friday night was rescheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Hanover.
The Hanover High School volleyball team will not participate in a tournament scheduled this weekend in Marysville, while the Hanover High School cross country team will not participate in a meet at Riley County Saturday.
