A 23-year-old Sterling man was injured and taken to BryanLGH West hospital in Lincoln after his car collided with a tractor-trailer truck shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, the Gage County Sheriff's Office reported.
Logun Hunt was taken to the hospital to be treated after he sustained injuries to his arm and wrist after the Dodge Intrepid he was driving collided with a semi truck driven by a 46-year-old Pierce man, James Wilbur, according to a sheriff's office news release.
The name of the truck driver was not released.
Hunt was traveling east on Nebraska Highway 41, two miles west of Cortland, when he fell asleep at the wheel, deputies said. His car then drifted over the center line and collided with a westbound 2002 Freightliner pulling a flatbed trailer.
Wilbur attempted to miss the car by driving off the side of the road. The car initially struck the left side tires of the tractor before hitting the left front trailer wheels, which caused the car to spin on the roadway before coming to a stop, deputies said.
Highway 41 was closed for more than two hours while the accident was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
