Indians, Lady Indians win Rettig Invite crowns

NEBRASKA CITY - Pawnee City dominated the six-team field at the Orville Rettig Invitational track and field meet Friday, taking both the girls and boys championships with authority.

The Lady Indians amassed nine gold medals and scored 147 points, while the Indians garnered seven golds and finished with 158 points.

The Lady Indians were led by Ky'Lee Engelken and Alicia Marteney, who picked up two gold medals each.

Engelken sprinted to first-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash in 27.6 and 1:02.6, respectively.

Marteney picked up gold medals in the 800-meter run and 1600-meter run in 2:29.3 and 5:33.7, respectively.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Heather Blecha had a first-place performance in 50.5.

Lisa Franz earned a gold in the high jump, clearing 4-6.

The Lady Indians dominated the relays, claiming all three events.

Pawnee City finished the 400 meter-relay in 55.9; the 1600-meter relay in 4:22.1; and the 3200-meter relay in 10:55.6.

Other Sunland teams in action at the meet were Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer, which placed fourth with 81 points, and Sterling, which placed fifth with 45.

Paige Schmid took HTRS's only gold medal, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 17.2.

In the boys division, Pawnee City was led by Tyler Spitser, who earned two gold medals.

Spitser sprinted to first-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash in 23.5 and 54.2, respectively.

Indian Tyler Derby sprinted his way to a gold medal in the 100-meter dash in 11.6.

In the 1600-meter run, Jace Bausch took the gold in 5:03.2.

Bryan Austin earned a gold in the high jump, clearing 5-10.

The Indian relay teams won two events, taking the 400-meter relay in 46.1 and the 1600-meter relay in 3:38.8.

HTRS's Titans placed third at the meet with 99 points, outpacing Sterling, which was fourth with 66.

Titan Marshal Freeman earned a gold in the long jump with a jump of 20-6 1/4.

In the discus, Michael Volker had a first-place performance with a throw of 150-9.

Sterling's Jesse Schmidt ran for a gold medal in the 800-meter run in 2:09.1.

In the 3200-meter run, Sterling's Brandon Nieveen earned first place in 11:02.0.

The Jets took the gold medal in the 3200-meter relay in 8:55.3.

yeah, i have a cleft palate to and i play football..i play DE,SS,WR,TE around their, my football hero right now is owen schmitt, he also has a cleft palate and is beastin it up at west virigina. he just got drafted by the seahwaks to if anyone is intrested.
