CRETE - Adverse weather conditions didn't stop the Adams Freeman Lady Falcons and the Humboldt Table Rock Steinauer Titans from claiming championship titles at the Lewiston Invitational track and field meet Tuesday at Doane College in Crete.

Freeman took first place in the girls division with 147 points, while HTRS won the boys division with 139 points.

In girls action, Freeman's points accumulated as the Lady Falcons earned first-place finishes in six events, while claiming second place in 10 events.

Denae Wolken led the Lady Falcons' effort with two individual gold medals.

Wolken won the 800-meter run in 2:31.5 and the 1600-meter run in 6:08.9.

Also earning gold medals for the Lady Falcons were Kelsey Schuster in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.4, Wendy Rogers in the 3200-meter run in 13:22.0 and Katie Schoen in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.3.

Freeman's 400-meter relay team also claimed a first-place finish with a time of 55.7.

In boys action, the Titans' five first-place finishes were only part of the reason they earned the team championship.

Depth also proved a key for the HTRS boys.

In eight out of 17 events, the Titans had at least two or more competitors place.

Matt Usher and Tanner Sharpe led the HTRS effort, each winning two events.

Usher took home golds in the high jump with a jump of 5-11 and in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.0.

Sharpe claimed first-place finishes in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.1 and the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.6.

Earning the other gold medal for HTRS was Marshal Freeman, who won the long jump with a leap of 19-6.
