A Kansas man was killed in a semi-truck accident Thursday night east of Odell.
At 5:47 p.m. Travis Hedman, 34, of Morganville, Kan., was pronounced dead at the scene after the semi-truck he was driving overturned on Nebraska Highway 8, one-half mile east of Odell, a Gage County Sheriff's Department news release said.
Hedman was driving west on Highway 8 when a deer jumped into the path of his truck, striking the upper portion of the hood of the truck. It then went through the driver's side windshield striking Hedman.
Hedman lost control of the truck and entered the south ditch and field before rolling onto the passenger side, the news release said.
Hedman was pulled from the cab of the truck by EMS personnel. It was concluded by investigators he died from injuries sustained during the collision.
The highway was closed to all traffic for two hours while the accident was investigated.
Odell QRT, Wymore Rescue, Beatrice Fire ALS, Gage County Reserve Deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol assisted at the scene.
