Musil breaks state record

PAWNEE CITY - When Pawnee City senior Samantha Musil sets her sights on a goal, she doesn't let anything stop her from working to achieve it.

Musil set a new Class D state record in the discus Tuesday at the Lewiston Invitational, which was held at Pawnee City, with a throw of 157-2.

The previous Class D state record was held by Clarks' Molly Jo Brown, who threw the discus 151-4 at the state track meet in 1993, setting both the state and state meet marks.

The all-class all-time state record in the discus is held by Wilber-Clatonia's Melanie Uher, who set the mark at 185-4 in 2002.

Musil said she set her sights on breaking the Class D state record already was a freshman.

Musil's record-breaking effort came on her first preliminary throw Tuesday.
