SPC Darren D. Howe, 21, Beatrice, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, from injuries he sustained in Iraq. He was born March 20, 1984, at Beatrice, and attended Cedar Elementary and Beatrice Middle School. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 2003, where he had participated in choir. He was married to Nakia Pearson on May 30, 2003, in Plymouth. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in September 2001 and served with the Third Infantry Division of the Third Brigade which was stationed in Iraq. He was a member of the Homestead Baptist Church of Beatrice, and enjoyed spending time with his children, working on vehicles and running.

Survivors: wife, Nakia; daughter, Shaye-Maleigh Howe of the home; son, Gary-Dean Howe of the home; mother and stepfather, JoDee and Greg Klaus of Beatrice; father and stepmother, Steve and Beau Howe of Emporia, Kan.; brothers, Brandon Howe and wife Jennifer of Fairbury, Alex Klaus of Beatrice; sisters, Jenna R. Howe and Becca K. Howe, both of Emporia, Kan.; grandparents, Martha Howe, Daryl and Gloria Baker, all of Beatrice; parents-in-law, Gayla and Stacy Claassen of Beatrice, John Pearson of Plymouth; brothers-in-law, Andrew Pearson and wife Kendrah of Appleton, Wis., Blaize Pearson of Rota, Spain, and Kalob Pearson and wife Tammy of Gillette, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Johnna Eppens and husband Shawn of Wymore; great-grandfather, Clifford Howe of Beatrice; stepsisters-in-law, Jamie, Alyssa and Shaina Claassen of Beatrice; grandparents-in-law, Gary and Judy Gibson of Beatrice, Nora Pearson of Plymouth; great-grandmother-in-law, Lillian Bratt of Beatrice; stepgrandparents, Donald and Olivia Klaus of Beatrice and Richard and Karen L'Ecuyer of Washington, Kan.; stepgreat-grandmother, Bertha Klaus of Beatrice; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sherrill Baker; great-grandparents, Dean and Evelyn Baker; stepgreat-grandfather, Herbert Klaus; grandfather-in-law, Roger Pearson.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, St. John Lutheran Church, Sixth and Washington streets, Beatrice, Pastor Mark Sutphin and Pastor David Kramer officiating. Burial: Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, with military honors. Family prayer service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, basement of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials established to the family's choice with Keith and Mary Ellen Long in charge. Closed casket visitation 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday, Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice. I think of Danielle everyday, and I miss her so much. I will always remember the time we shared. Danielle was such a close friend to me and has such an impact on my life. I wish she was still here with me now. I miss you Danielle so much, i cry everytime I think of you.
