AUBURN - Pawnee City senior Bobby Musil had a record-setting performance Saturday in the discus.

Musil set an unofficial Class D State record in the event at the Pioneer Conference track and field meet at Auburn.

The senior had a best-effort of 197-4 on his second throw of the preliminaries. The previous Class D State record was set by Derek Frese of Bancroft-Rosalie in 2000 at 189-5.

Musil's throw was also a Pioneer Conference meet record and a Pawnee City High School record.

While Musil's throw surpassed the state record, it will not become official until the paperwork is submitted to and approved by the Nebraska State Athletic Association.

The all-class state record is held by Andy Meyer of Superior, who threw the discus 203-8 in 1989.

Musil was the All-Class Gold Medal winner at last year's Nebraska State High School Track and Field Championships in Omaha with a throw of 178-5.

The Class D State meet record is 178-9 and was set by Jeff Brown of Clarks in 1997. The all-class state meet record was set by Marty Kobza of Schuyler in 1981 at 201-7.

Meyer and Kobza's marks stand as the Class B state and state meet records. The Class A state and state meet records were set by Scott McPherren of Lincoln East in 1993 at 198-8.

Derric Werner of Tilden-Elkhorn Valley set the Class C state record in 2002 at 196-11 and the Class C state meet record in 2001 at 182-7.
